Assistant /Associate / Full Professor – Program Director, Endocrinology & Metabolism Training Program, Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism, Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Residency Program Director, Endocrinology & Metabolism. The Division offers one of the largest training programs in Endocrinology & Metabolism in Canada (8-10 residents); faculty members are national and international leaders in education and research.  Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Successful completion of the Continuing Faculty Appointment Review (CFAR) is required.  The term of the Endocrinology & Metabolism Program Director (PD) appointment is five years with the possibility of one renewal following a successful review. Effective start date is July 1, 2021, or an alternative date as mutually agreed on with a transition/mentorship period prior to the start date.

The Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism at the University of Toronto is a dynamic and vibrant division, being central to the clinical care of complex patients at all of the major teaching hospitals affiliated with the University of Toronto, the home of the discovery of insulin. The research, education, and clinical care in the Division is world-class, and the numerous hospital sites offer an unparalleled breadth and depth of training and research experiences in the field of Endocrinology & Metabolism.

The Endocrinology & Metabolism PD is a leadership position, highly valued and pivotal to the overall success of the Division and the Department. The Endocrinology & Metabolism PD is responsible for the overall conduct, organization and accountability of the Royal College Endocrinology & Metabolism residency training program. The PD reports jointly to the Vice-Chair, Education or his/her designate and the Departmental Division Director. The PD is also accountable to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.

The ideal candidate is a respected clinical teacher and innovative leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an interest in education. A solid track record of scholarship and innovation would be a strong asset. S/he will ensure that residents are able to achieve the competencies of Endocrinology & Metabolism and that they are thoroughly prepared for their Royal College examinations and future careers as Endocrinology & Metabolism Specialists.  Specific attention to resident wellness is a must.

Applicants must hold an MD degree, be a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Endocrinology & Metabolism Specialist or be eligible for certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure in Ontario. The preferred hospital site for the Program Director’s clinical activities will be negotiated with the successful candidate and be one of the following fully-affiliated University sites:  Sinai Health Systems, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), St. Michael’s Hospital, University Health Network or Women’s College Hospital. The Program Director for Endocrinology & Metabolism will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine in the amount of $37,500 plus HST.  The PD will have support from an administrative assistant and use team workspace within the Department of Medicine.
