Highlighting the 2025 DoM Quality & Innovation award winners
This past June, the Department of Medicine recognized some of our faculty who have made significant and meaningful contributions to education, teaching, research, quality and innovation, humanism, mentorship and clinical practice with our annual awards. These awards celebrate our faculty members and recognize the local and global impact of our department.
Here’s what our Quality & Innovation award winners had to say about receiving their award:
Award in Quality & Innovation – Dr. Amir Ginzburg
“It was an incredible honour (and very humbling!) to receive this award, particularly given the past winners who are legendary pioneers in quality and innovation, and have inspired so many. I was also very pleased to see part-time faculty represented in the DOM awards, and I hope that other part-time faculty are inspired to know that their work is both seen and valued by their peers.”
Award in Quality & Innovation – Dr. Jerome Leis
“Preventing healthcare-associated infection takes a team and I work with such an amazing team every day at Sunnybrook. I am very honoured to receive this acknowledgment, which recognizes some of the progress we have made. At the same time, we have so much work yet to do, and our team remains as focused as ever on continuing to develop new ways of providing safer healthcare.”
William Goldie Award in Quality & Innovation – Dr. Houman Khosravani
“This award puts wind in my sails for continuing to impact patient care and improve access to stroke care, knowing that our quality improvement work touches many lives and strengthens the entire chain of survival for stroke patients from the moment they enter our doors through their journey to rehabilitation and home. It reinforces why I am passionate about helping build a system that gets it right each and every time – safely and efficaciously – doing the best we can for every patient we serve. Most importantly, this recognition reminds me why I love working alongside our amazing team and why this work matters so deeply to me.”
William Goldie Award in Quality & Innovation – Dr. Charles Kassardjian
“Receiving the Goldie Prize for Quality & Innovation was a tremendous honour and deeply humbling, especially given the calibre and talent of previous winners. It reflects the collective efforts of my mentors, collaborators and fellow Clinicians in Quality & Innovation (CQI) colleagues, who have supported my work over the years. I am grateful to them and the Department of Medicine, and appreciate the recognition being afforded to QI work, alongside teaching, research and clinical excellence.”
