It is with profound sadness that I share the news that Dr. Vera Bril passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Dr. Bril was an extraordinary clinician, scientist, mentor, colleague, and leader whose impact on neurology, neuromuscular medicine, the University of Toronto, UHN, and our broader academic community is immeasurable. As many of you know, she served as Division Director of Neurology at UHN-Sinai from 2005 to 2019 and helped shape the clinical, academic, and institutional foundations of our division over many decades.
Her contributions to neuromuscular neurology, her leadership in academic medicine, and her mentorship of generations of physicians and clinician-scientists have left a profound and lasting legacy. She will be remembered for her brilliance, generosity, high standards, and unwavering commitment to patients and colleagues.
