Best Practice in Education Rounds: Coaching in Health Professional Clinical Education: What Are We Learning?

This session will provide an overview of coaching, its component parts, and related research in health professions education, and will conclude with a discussion of the pros and cons of implementation.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss similarities and differences between feedback and coaching.
  2. Describe the key elements or activities which comprise coaching in education.
  3. Briefly review results of recent research studies of coaching in health professional education.
  4. Discuss factors which may influence the implementation of coaching in health professional education.
