Dr. Gord Boyd is a neurologist and critical care physician at Queen’s University.  He leads a program of research aimed at understanding the acute- and long-term neurological consequences of critical illness.

Topic: Neuroprognostication after Cardiac Arrest

Objectives:

  • To learn an approach to the neuroprognostication consult for comatose survivors of cardiac arrest.
  • To learn the strengths and limitations of the various clinical and electrophysiological tools used for neuroprognostication after cardiac arrest.
  • A case-based format will be used to demonstrate how neuroprognostication data can be incorporated into day-to-day clinical practice.

"What is this patient’s neurological prognosis after cardiac arrest?”  This is one of the most common, yet challenging consults neurologists face in the intensive care unit.  Tools exist to help inform how long-term prognosis might look, but they each have their strengths and limitations.  During this session, we’ll learn an organized approach to these consults.
