Graduate Appointments
The Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto is not a graduate department. In order for Department of Medicine faculty members to supervise and teach graduate students, they must apply for a graduate appointment.
The School of Graduate Studieshas more general information regarding graduate department appointments, along with a full list of graduate units across the University.
Common graduate appointments held by clinical faculty members are in:
- Institute of Medical Science (IMS)
- Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME)
- Institute of Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering (IBBME)
- Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (LMP)
- Medical Biophysics
- Molecular Genetics
- Immunology
- Public Health Sciences
Graduate appointments are a distinct type of appointment separate from clinical cross-appointments or non-clinical academic appointments. As a note a LMP appointment would technically be considered a clinical cross-appointment.
For faculty members who are primary to the Department of Medicine, graduate appointments will require a letter of support from the Chair of the Department. Please contact dom.academicappts@utoronto.ca with any questions regarding support letters.
