Caroline Kramer

Dr Caroline K Kramer is an Associate Professor, Endocrinologist, and Clinician-Scientist at the University of Toronto, Division of Endocrinology and Leadership Sinai Centre for Diabetes/Mount Sinai Hospital. She is an MD PhD originally from Brazil where she had MD (at UFCSPA) and subspecialty training in Endocrinology (at HCPA/UFRGS), and PhD at the PPG Endocrinology at UFRGS/RS, lived in USA (California) as part of PhD sandwich program and moved to Canada in 2012 where she has established her academic work.

Her clinical research work has focused on the pathophysiology and risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus particularly the interaction between obesity and diabetes, risk factors for cardiovascular disease in individuals with metabolic abnormalities, and strategies for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes (including lifestyle interventions such as intermittent fasting strategies and pharmacological approaches). 
To date, her research has yielded more than 143 original peer-reviewed publications including first-authorship publications in high-impact general medical journals such as Annals of Internal Medicine, British Medical Journal and the Lancet, and top sub specialty journals in the field of diabetes and endocrinology including Diabetes, Diabetes Care and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. 

She has received the Diabetes Canada Clinician-Scientist award, Banting and Best New Investigator award and her research has been funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research, Diabetes Canada, and Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.  She is a proud best friend with Romeo (a black miniature schnauzer) who has inspired her work on lifestyle.
