Dr. Naimark received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1987. He completed post-graduate training in Internal Medicine in 1993 and then received his Royal College Special Certification in Nephrology in 1996. He also took Continuing education Courses in Mathematics and Computer Science at the Ryerson Polytechnic University before completing his Masters of Science in 2000.

Prior to his current position of Acting Head, Division of Nephrology, Sunnybrook, Dr. Naimark was also the Medical Research Council of Canada Fellow, Section of Neurogenetics, Clarke Institute, and Clinical fellow, Hypertension Unit, Toronto Hospital, Western Division. Dr. Naimark is also a member of the Canadian Society of Nephrology, the Canadian Diabetes Association, and the International Genetic Epidemiology Society.

His current research interests include assessing the effectiveness of a small-group, interactive educational tool to facilitate the adoption of the Canadian Diabetes Association guidelines for MAU screening and treatment among primary care physicians, and developing the capability to ‘webcast’ the University of Toronto, Division of Nephrology City-wide rounds. In addition, he has published 19 peer-reviewed papers and 35 abstracts.
