Dr. McDonald-Blumer completed her internal medicine and rheumatology training at the University of Toronto. Following initial community rheumatology practice, she joined the University of Toronto in 2004 as a Clinician Educator in the Division of Rheumatology at Mt. Sinai Hospital/University Health Network.  

Dr. McDonald-Blumer served as the University of Toronto program director for rheumatology (2005-2010) and has held a variety of education leadership roles within the Canadian Rheumatology Association and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Her work has advanced rheumatology training across the country through collaborative curricular innovations. 

Dr McDonald Blumer has held other leadership roles at the University of Toronto including program director for Internal Medicine (2009-2016),  Competence By Design Faculty Lead for the Dept of Medicine (2017-2020), Faculty Lead for Curriculum for PGME (2023-2026) and Departmental Division Director for Rheumatology at U of T (2016-2026). She has received numerous teaching awards over the past decade - from her division, her hospital, the Department of Medicine and nationally. To be recognised by one’s peers is the greatest of professional honours.
