Morris Freedman

Morris Freedman OOnt, BSc, MD, FRCPC, FAAN is a Professor the Department of Medicine (Neurology) at the University of Toronto and Staff Neurologist since 1983. He received his MD degree from University of Ottawa. He completed his neurology residency at University of Toronto and a behavioral neurology fellowship at the Boston VA Medical Centre.  He is Head and of Neurology at Baycrest Health Sciences, Medical Director of the Pamela and Paul Austin Centre for Neurology and Behavioural Support at Baycrest, and a scientist at the Rotman Research Institute of Baycrest Centre. Dr. Freedman is an internationally recognized authority in dementia care, research, and education. He has advanced early diagnosis and treatment through innovative models of care, global collaborations, and over 200 publications. His initiatives, including the novel Virtual Behavioural Medicine model and virtual international knowledge-sharing platform, have expanded access and improved outcomes worldwide. His most recent research focus includes the use of artificial intelligence for identification of cognitive decline, as well as for precision medicine in the treatment of neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia. He was awarded the Order of Ontario in February, 2026.
