Ricardo Maciel

Dr. Ricardo O. H. Maciel is a neurologist trained at the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil. He has completed fellowship training at the Movement Disorders Clinic at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where he also earned a Master’s degree in Adult Health from the same institution. In 2019 he completed fellowship training in the Movement Disorders Surgical Program at the University of Toronto, where he oversaw patients treated with deep brain stimulation and carried out extensive research on its uses and efficacy.

After completing his MSc, Dr. Maciel worked as an associate professor of medicine at the José do Rosário Vellano University in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and as a staff neurologist at the UFMG University Hospital, where he was involved in the care of patients with neurodegenerative diseases and movement disorders. He was the founder and the director of the DBS program at UFMG, bringing advanced clinical and surgical care to patients with Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and tremor.

Dr. Maciel’s main areas of interest are in the advanced management of movement disorders with neuromodulation and other forms of stereotactic surgery, including focused ultrasound.
