Stephen Lapinsky is Site Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and he is a Professor of Medicine. He is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he did postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Pulmonology/Critical Care.

His clinical practice involves Critical Care and Respirology, and he is the site lead for the Critical Care Response team at Mount Sinai Hospital. His clinical research interest is in the field of respiratory diseases in pregnancy and the management of the critically ill obstetric patient. Due to the small numbers of patients, he has developed a collaborative network of clinicians involved in the care of these patients. He is an Editor of the journal Obstetric Medicine. He has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and as well as more than 20 book chapters, and a book on Respiratory Diseases in Pregnancy.
