Description:

The fellowship is specifically designed to educate adult Hematology trainees interested in Hemoglobinopathies. It is a 2 year combined clinical and research fellowship in Adult Hemoglobinopathies, focusing on comprehensive care, inter-professional collaboration, education, and research development.

  • Year 1 – Understanding Hemoglobinopathies as a chronic disorder, from prenatal through adolescence and into adulthood. Time will be spent in the diagnostic laboratories, pediatrics, pain clinic, wound care, and transfusion medicine as well as the adult clinical program.
  • Year 2 – Mastering Hemoglobinopathies. This will provide for more independent learning and clinical practice and a significant amount of time dedicated towards scholarly activities.  There is an opportunity to spend time in Europe learning alternative models of care delivery, and establish future research and clinical collaborations.

It is expected that trainees undertake a Master’s program, according to their desired career tract. If the Fellow is from outside of Toronto, it is expected they will return to their home institution and implement further Hemoglobinopathy training locally.
