Goals: To acquire training and experience necessary to become a productive investigator in Emergency Medicine. To obtain a graduate research degree, and/or obtain enhanced experience in EM research methods.
Curriculum: For applicants without a research degree, the first year will involve the completion of the course work for a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Toronto. Applications are due September 1 prior to the fellowship year. Acceptance to this program of training is subject to the selection committee in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Toronto. The second year will focus on the completion of a thesis research project.
Applicants, who have already obtained a relevant MSc or PhD, will pursue a program of research under the direction of the research supervisor. This may be a one or two year experience. The goal is to establish a grant and publication record in EM research.
Objectives: Submission of at least two manuscripts per year (including original work) to a peer-review journal. An annual presentation of abstracts at national and international conferences (CAEP, SAEM or ACEP) is strongly encouraged. Participation in the development and submission of a grant protocol to a peer reviewed granting agency is expected.
