Call for nominations: Department of Medicine Teaching and Education Awards
There are three DoM Teaching and Education Awards:
- Teacher of the Year Award
- William Goldie Prize and Travel Award in Education
- William Goldie Prize and Travel Award in Teaching
Department of Medicine Teacher of the Year
The Department of Medicine Teacher of the Year Award, established in 1989, recognizes a member of the Department of Medicine who has demonstrated sustained excellence as a teacher and role model over several years. The award, consisting of a commemorative certificate, is presented at the Department of Medicine Annual Day. The award is open to full- and part-time faculty members who have a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine. Previous winners of the award are not eligible for re-nomination. Categories of contributions are listed below. Candidates are not required to have made contributions in all these areas:
- Sustained excellence in teaching;
- Educational research and/or scholarship;
- Leadership in education.
Nominations must be received as a single package by the Education Awards Committee by Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:59 PM via medicine.training@utoronto.ca and include:
- An email with the candidate’s name and brief comment (300 words) describing reason for nomination.
- Up-to-date candidate curriculum vitae.
- An abbreviated teaching dossier (including teaching philosophy and brief summary of accomplishments, five to ten pages).
Please ensure the nominee's name is in the file name.
Eligibility:
- Full- and part-time faculty members who have a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine
- University of Toronto Department of Medicine DDDs and Vice Chairs are not eligible for nomination
- Self-nomination is now allowed
- Please notify the DDD of the nominee and encourage them to also submit a nomination. Multiple nominations are welcome.
William Goldie Prize and Travel Awards
The William Goldie Prize and Travel Award in Education was established in 1945 by an anonymous donor to honour the late Dr. William Goldie, who held a faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine. The education prize — consisting of a commemorative certificate and travel grant — is awarded annually to a member of the department who is within 10 years of appointment to the department and who has made a contribution of notable merit to the advancement of sound knowledge in internal medicine through teaching. In recent years, the DoM has also awarded a William Goldie Prize and Travel Award in Teaching. Previous winners of the award of the award are not eligible for re-nomination.
