Dr. Robert Simard | Rob is an emergency physician at Sunnybrook and North York General Hospitals who has interests in medical education, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and advanced life support. Born in Northern Ontario, he quickly discovered his body was unsuitable for mining or farming, so he went on to complete medical school at the University of Ottawa. During his emergency medicine residency at the University of Toronto, he completed a POCUS fellowship at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. He enjoys teaching weekend ultrasound, PALS and ACLS courses. Rob is a baseball fanatic, and can be found cheering for his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He is an avid fisherman and dreams of one day owning his own fishing boat on Manitoulin Island. |
Dr. Nima Farkhani | Nima is an emergency physician at Sunnybrook and Humber River Hospitals who has interests in medical education. He finished his medical school at the University of Tehran and practiced as a general practitioner and emergency physician in the rural area and Tehran for three years. Moving to Canada for a better medical education, he finished his emergency medicine residency at the University of Toronto in 2013. He enjoys working at both academic and community hospitals and thinks mixture of both makes him a better clinician. He is passionate about traveling particularly to exotic destinations such as Arctic, Iceland, Tanzania, Zanzibar. |
Goals and Objectives for Dr. Simards portion of M&M&I rounds
- To ensure differential diagnoses are broad when dealing with sick patients
- To review the management of febrile patients in the resuscitation room
- To review the medication choices with febrile patients in the resuscitation room
Goals and Objectives for Dr. Farkhani's portion of M&M&I rounds
- Early recognition of severity of overdosing and anticipating poor outcome
- Providing on going care after referral to other services
- Considering intra-lipid and ECMO in selected OD patients
