Ali Kohansal

Dr. Kohansal completed medical school at Flinders University of South Australia, after obtaining his Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alberta and Gastroenterology training at Dalhousie University. He further pursued a fellowship in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at the University of Alberta, while completing a Master of Education in curriculum studies through Acadia/Dalhousie Universities' joint program. Dr. Kohansal had been an active member of the academic faculty at University of Alberta and Dalhousie University before he was recruited to the Univeristy of Toronto. He was the Program Director of the Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellowship program and the Assistant Program Director of the core GI training program at Dalhousie University. He was the lead for the GI residency simulation training at Dalhousie University and the Medical Lead for Central Zone Simulation at Nova Scotia Health Authority. He also serves on the GI examination board at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Kohansal's clinical expertise include ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound, advanced polypectomy, enteral stenting for malignant and non-malignant strictures. His areas of research interest include advanced endoscopy, quality improvement and education in endoscopy. He has supervised and mentored numerous medicine and GI residents and is a celebrated educator.
