Amy Yu

Dr. Yu is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, a Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) Scientist, a full-status ICES adjunct scientist, and a stroke neurologist. As a Clinician-Scientist, her expertise in stroke research, guideline writing, and clinical practice informs her research program aiming to design stroke health systems to optimize outcomes and reduce inequity. She is active in clinical stroke management, and received the MD Program Teaching Award of Excellence for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Since 2017, Dr. Yu has held >$11.9M operating grant funds ($2.4M as PI). She has authored >90 career publications (38 first/senior author, h-index 22). She earned the distinction of the highest rated Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada National New Investigator working in stroke (2020-2024) and she was awarded the prestigious American Academy of Neurology Michael S. Pessin Stroke Leadership Prize in 2022 for her outstanding achievements in stroke. She has delivered 29 invited lectures nationally and internationally, and her work has garnered media attention. She has supervised or been on the supervisory committee of 23 research trainees.

Dr. Yu is the Chair of CorHealth Ontario’s Hyperacute Stroke Performance Measurement and Monitoring Task Group; she oversees the acute stroke section of the Ontario’s stroke report card. In her role as the Chair of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada National Quality Advisory Committee, she leads a group of clinicians, knowledge users, and researchers to standardize the quality indicators used to measure stroke care across Canada. 

She is on the Stroke journal editorial board and she won the journal’s Outstanding Reviewer Award in 2022. She is also an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences.
