Atul Humar

Dr. Atul Humar was recruited to Toronto as the Director of the UHN Multi-Organ Transplant Program and the University of Toronto Transplant Institute. Dr Humar received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa. He completed his clinical and research training in infectious diseases and Transplantation in Toronto and Boston. Dr. Humar’s research interests are in virology with a focus on herpes virus infections post-transplant. He is involved in both basic and clinical research assessing immunologic and virologic determinants of infection. Dr. Humar is internationally known in the transplant community and has played an active leadership role several national and international professional transplantation societies. He has received numerous honors and awards including Canada’s Top 40 under 40 as well as several research awards. He moved here from Edmonton where he was Director of the Alberta Transplant Institute. Dr. Humar operates a joint research lab with his wife, Dr. Deepali Kumar, who is also a faculty member at the University of Toronto.
