Bindee Kuriya

Dr. Kuriya is a clinician-investigator and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto whose work focuses on rheumatoid arthritis (RA). She is widely recognized as an expert in RA and is deeply committed to advancing care for patients by treating RA as a whole-person disease, recognizing that inflammation, comorbidities, and quality of life are deeply interconnected. Her clinical and research programs emphasize innovative models of care that bridge traditional silos in medicine, particularly addressing the complex intersection between RA and comorbid conditions such as cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Kuriya is the Principal Investigator of the Ontario Best Practices Research Initiative (OBRI), one of the largest real-world RA registries in North America. OBRI collects longitudinal clinical and patient-reported data from rheumatology practices across Ontario to study treatment patterns, outcomes, and healthcare utilization in routine care, generating real-world evidence to inform best practices in RA management.

Her research program integrates observational cohort data, clinical registries, and population-based administrative databases to better understand treatment effectiveness, healthcare delivery, and the burden of comorbidities in RA. She is also highly engaged in education and knowledge translation, frequently teaching trainees and healthcare professionals on advances in RA therapeutics and contributing to patient and public education through organizations such as the Arthritis Society and the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance.
