Joanna Schaafsma

Dr. Schaafsma MD PhD is Associate Professor, vascular neurologist who obtained her medical degree in the Netherlands followed by vascular neurology training in Paris. She returned to the Netherlands for a PhD program on brain aneurysm imaging while she completed her neurology residency including an elective in interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology. This was followed by a stroke fellowship in Toronto.

Since 2018, she is a clinician investigator at the University Health Network, at the University of Toronto. She focuses her research on decision making and imaging in cerebrovascular diseases. She obtained funding from several sources and uses her (inter)national collaborative network to lead and participate in investigator led observational studies and key clinical trials.
