Kumaraswamy Nanthakumar
Dr. K. Nanthakumar is Associate Professor of Medicine at the University Health Network in Toronto. He received his MD degree at
University of Toronto in 1995 and then pursued Internal Medicine and Cardiology in Toronto. He subsequently completed his cardiac electrophysiology training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His research training was on the mechanisms of cardiac fibrillation.
He is the recipient of the Early Researcher Award from the Ministry of Innovation as well as the Clinician Scientist Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. His research interest is mechanisms of human VF, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and electrophysiology of cardiac regenerative therapy. His clinical expertise is management of cardiac arrhythmias and devices in heart failure. He performs catheter ablations and implants biventricular defibrillators. He is in receipt of grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Heart and Stroke Foundation for researching the mechanisms of human VF and CPR. He is currently researching the mechanism of VF in explanted human hearts and electrophysiological consequences of cardiac regenerative therapy.
