Mary Jane Lim Fat

Dr. Lim-Fat’s work focuses on precision therapeutics in brain tumors, specifically under the following themes 1) adolescent and young adult (AYA) neuro-oncological care 2) molecular biomarkers and targeted therapeutics and 3) investigation and translation of non-invasive biomarkers of response and resistance in CNS oncology. She established a practice of young adults transitioning from pediatric centres, and developed a pathway for molecular testing, targeted therapy and neuropsychological testing at the Odette Cancer Centre's CNS Oncology clinic. She has established a multimodal registry regrouping imaging, molecular and clinical outcomes data at Sunnybrook and have enrolled 150 patients with brain tumors on this study.

Nationally, Dr. Lim-Fat started and now lead the Canadian AYA Neuro-Oncology molecular rounds which occur biweekly and are complex case conference. From a translational standpoint, she has used this clinical interest to locally launch molecularly-based clinical trials for the young adult population and is currently the site PI on 2 trials (ONC201-108 in diffuse midline glioma and F8394-201 for BRAF-mutated glioma).

From a research standpoint, Dr. Lim-Fat has leveraged her clinical collaborations to establish the Canadian AYA Neuro-Oncology Network (CANON) under which we have designed a multi-dimensional prospective molecular and clinical database. She is also the PI on a number of studies investigating the role of non-invasive biomarkers, specifically MRI-based studies in assessing markers of response and resistance in primary brain tumors. Furthermore, she supports a number of focused-ultrasound based studies as the neuro-oncology co-investigator. She has received a number of grants as PI and co-PI for these efforts, and has contributed and led a number of publications on these themes.
