Michael completed his undergraduate studies in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto Scarborough in 2010. He completed his undergraduate medical education in 2015 and residency in internal medicine at the University of Toronto in 2018. He was in the cohort to first complete the Royal College fellowship in palliative medicine at the University of Toronto in 2020. He completed a Master's degree at the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Toronto in 2023, whereby he developed and validated a clinical prediction tool to estimate the risk of mortality in hospitalized individuals with dementia. His clinical and research interest is in increasing access to and enhancing the quality of palliative medicine for patients with non-malignant diseases, including chronic kidney disease, heart failure, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and dementia. He co-founded Palliative Care for Advanced Non-malignant Diseases (PCAND), a national community of practice of palliative medicine specialists who provide care to patients with non-malignant diseases, supported by the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians.
