Dr. Michael Kutryk received his Ph.D. and M.D. from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba in 1990. He completed Specialty Certification in Internal Medicine at Subspecialty Training in Cardiology at McGill University at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. His cardiology training was followed by a four-year post-doctoral research and clinical training program in Interventional Cardiology at the Erasmus University and University Hospital Rotterdam - Dijkzigt. Dr. Kutryk is currently a cardiologist and clinician scientist with St. Michael’s Hospital and Assistant professor, University of Toronto.

Dr. Kutryk’s main research interest is the study of endothelial progenitor cell biology in halth and disease. He has developed the first tissue engineered coronary stent, and he is now focusing on tissue engineered vascular grafts. His other research interests include cell based gene therapy approaches for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Kutryk also continues his work with Dr. Duncan Stewart in angiogenesis, a procedure that stimulates the growth of new blood vessels in the heart.

Dr. Kutryk has written two textbooks on coronary artery stenting and has edited three others. He has authored or co-authored 45 original scientific publications and has written 14 book chapters for major textbooks of cardiology.
