Nazanin Meshkat
Nazanin Meshkat is an urbanite born in Tehran raised in Madrid and now calls Toronto home. She completed her medical degree at University of Western Ontario, her royal college emergency medicine residency at McMaster University, and has been working as an emergency doctor at University Health Network since 2004. She obtained her Masters of Health administration at University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, and from 2010-2013 worked as a fellow with the Center in Innovation and Complex Care (now OpenLab).
Nazanin is a passionate advocate of health equity, quality improvement and medical education. She has been a key player in the successful launch of the first emergency medicine residency program in Ethiopia, and co-led the development and implementation of the program’s curriculum. At CICC (now OpenLab) she has led and collaborated in bridging transitions of care for patients with atrial fibrillation. She currently splits her academic time as an emergency doctor and as the Director of the Royal College Emergency Medicine Residency Program at University of Toronto. At the core of her academic path is the empowerment of learners, patients and local populations in a sustainable manner.
She is a mother, an avid reader of non-fiction books, a foodie of culturally diverse cuisines, and in her spare time nurtures her love for all things dance. She believes in fostering her own unique creative power in everything she does, and creating an environment where others can do the same.
