Ramesh Prasad

Dr. Ramesh Prasad graduated from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, India in 1990 and completed his training at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Toronto General Hospital. He holds an MSc from the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto, and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Waterloo. He has been a Staff Physician at St. Michael’s Hospital since 2000, became Director of the Kidney Transplant Program and a Fellow of the American Society of Transplantation in 2016, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2017. His clinical and research interests include all aspects pertinent to the long-term health of kidney transplant recipients/donors, and the philosophy of science and medicine. He has authored or co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Prasad has cared for over 5500 kidney transplant recipients and donors, shifted transplant clinical practice to include current health biomarkers, trained numerous transplant fellows, and combated global transplant commercialism. Special interests include relating kidney disease to heart disease and evaluating changed part-to-whole relationships when organs are replaced. He enjoys studying history, collecting Parker pens, and maintaining a home aquarium. His first book, Your Kidney Transplant Journey: Prepare Recover Thrive, will be released in 2026.
