Ryan Brydges

Dr. Brydges is an education scientist who has been researching health professions education, with a focus in health care simulation since 2006. His research program concentrates on three related domains: (i) clarifying how health care trainees and professionals manage or ‘self-regulate’ their life-long learning, (ii) understanding how to optimize the instructional design of health care simulation, and other technology-enhanced learning modalities, for training and assessment of health care professionals, and (iii) identifying best practices in the training and assessment for bedside invasive medical procedures. In 2017, Dr. Brydges was appointed to the Professorship in Technology-Enabled Education, a Hospital-University Limited Term Professorship. He is also the Research Director at the Allan Waters Family Simulation Centre, St. Michael’s Hospital.

Dr. Brydges is an assistant professor and education scientist in the Department of Medicine, University of Toronto, and the Wilson Centre, University Health Network. Dr. Brydges obtained his MSc and PhD from the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto. He also held an Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) supported Post-doctoral fellowship at the University of British Columbia from 2009-2010.

Dr. Brydges has had 26 grants, 58 peer-reviewed publications,14 honours and awards, and has made 143 international, national and local presentations.
