Dr Shannon Chun is a staff physician in emergency medicine at the University Health Network. After finishing medical school at Queen's University, he went on to complete his five-year residency training at the University of Toronto. During his subspecialty year, he studied at Harvard University to obtain a Master of Public Health with concentrations in infectious disease epidemiology and humanitarian studies. Through his practicum at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, he evaluated organizational impact and performance metrics via in-depth stakeholder interviews and qualitative thematic analysis. Currently, he is working towards additional training in medical teaching and evaluation through the Masters Teacher Program in the Department of Medicine.
Dr Chun's academic and scholarly interests lie in global health, medical education, and infectious diseases. In addition to providing classroom and bedside teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, he is the Curriculum Lead for the Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration-Emergency Medicine (TAAAC-EM) program. In this role, he collaborates with international partners to further support and progress curricular programming for emergency residents in Ethiopia. He is also looking forward to contributing to the Global Health Emergency Medicine fellowship program locally in Toronto. Overall, he hopes to continue advancing clinical opportunities related to global health for trainees, expanding the role of acute care within public healthcare systems, and improving training for infectious disease management in the emergency department.
