Sofia Genta
Sofia is a Medical Oncologist with a clinical focus on skin cancers and head and neck malignancies. Originally from Italy, she completed her residency training between the Candiolo Cancer Institute and the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland. She later moved to Toronto to pursue an international fellowship in the Phase I Drug Development Program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the University of Toronto. During this time, she gained extensive experience in early phase clinical trials deepened her expertise in translational research, working at the interface of scientific discovery and patient care.
After her fellowship, Sofia joined Queen's University in Kingston as an Assistant Professor and member of the Medical Oncology team at Kingston General Hospital. Her time in Kingston provided an opportunity to broaden her clinical practice, support trainees, and continue developing her research interests in immune oncology. She collaborated with colleagues across disciplines and contributed to several projects aimed at expanding access to cutting edge technologies across Canada, including the MOHCCN initiative.
Sofia's research focuses on liquid biopsy, mechanisms of resistance, and immune-related adverse events. She is particularly interested in how emerging biomarkers may help guide treatment decisions and improve the management of patients receiving immunotherapy.
