Steven Chan
Dr. Chan is a clinician scientist and staff physician at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at University of Toronto. His clinical and research interests are focused on acute myeloid leukemia. He received his medical and research training at Stanford University where he earned his M.D. and Ph.D. degree in Immunology. He completed his internal medicine residency and adult hematology fellowship at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. He conducted his postdoctoral research under the supervision of Dr. Ravindra Majeti at the Stanford Cancer Institute with a focus on mitochondrial function in AML. Dr. Chan started his independent laboratory at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in November of 2015. His current research focuses on 1) understanding the role of mitochondria in the regulation of stem cell properties in normal and malignant hematopoiesis, 2) developing novel therapeutic approaches that target metabolic/mitochondrial pathways in leukemic stem cells and pre-leukemia, and 3) developing novel prognostic tools for AML patients based on the detection of minimal residual disease.
