Biographical Notes – Dr. Vivian P. Bykerk 2006

Dr. Bykerk received her medical degree in 1981 and an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biochemistry in 1978 from McMaster University. She completed her fellowship in Rheumatology at McGill University in 1987 and prior to that completed her residency in Internal and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Toronto. She trained in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics through McMaster University.

She is currently a consultant in Rheumatology at the Mount Sinai Hospital and University Health Network in Toronto and the director or the Early Arthritis Program at Mount Sinai Hospital. She is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto, the assistant director of the Division for Advanced Therapeutics at the Mount Sinai Hospital, the Director of the Early Arthritis Program at UHN/Mount Sinai Hospital and the Chair of the Canadian Network of Early Arthritis Researchers (NEAR). From 1987 until 1999 she was the director of Rheumatology at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga. She was on staff at the Hospital for Sick Children where she worked in the Rheumatology Transition Clinic and she continues to accept Transition patients in her clinical practice. She has been on staff at Women’s College Hospital for the Multi-Disciplinary Osteoporosis Program since 1994.

Dr. Bykerk's clinical research interests include early rheumatoid arthritis and therapeutics in RA. She has been an active participant in numerous investigator driven trials including those in RA, SLE, adhesive capsulitis. Dr. Bykerk was the recipient of the Senior Rheumatology Scholar Award presented by the American College of Rheumatology.
