Dr. Vivian Huang completed her undergraduate medical degree and General Internal Medicine training at Queen’s University before her Gastroenterology training in University of Toronto from 2010 to 2012. She further pursued a Master of Science in Medicine (2012 to 2014) and completed an Advanced IBD clinical research fellowship in 2015 at the University of Alberta. In 2013, she developed the first Northern Alberta Preconception and Pregnancy in IBD clinic and established the Preconception and Pregnancy in IBD clinical research program. As an Assistant Professor with the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta from 2015 to 2017, she received local, provincial, and national Research Innovation and Seed grants to support several innovative research studies in IBD. She also received unrestricted funds to develop the Northern Alberta Health Professionals Multidisciplinary Care for IBD conference series to improve knowledge translation in the topic of IBD care. She has published nearly 30 refereed manuscripts including journal articles, guidelines, and a book chapter. With her interest in e-health initiatives, she has also been a divisional EMR (eClinician) lead, DOM health informatics advisory group member, and a provincial Clinical Knowledge Content Management (CKCM) Topic Lead. Her clinical and research focus at SHS will be to develop a specialized clinical research and education program for pregnancy and IBD, strengthening collaborations with Obstetrics, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Obstetrical Medicine, and other specialties.
