Description:

The fellowship is for the fellow:

  • To obtain valuable clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary osteoporosis, and other metabolic or genetic bone diseases by attending ambulatory outpatient clinics at University Health Network, and thereby become a certified expert in the management of these medical problems. 
  • To gain experience in the strategies used to manage patients with various types of fractures by attending ambulatory outpatient clinics and consulting on inpatients, analyzing database information, learning the basic science regarding fracture healing, and by attending / participating at Osteoporosis Program related rounds. 
  • To gain experience and technical skills in bone density reporting and in he interpretation of advanced bone imaging data, such as trabecular bone score (TBS), bone structure information from high resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography, peripheral quantitative computed tomography, CT, MRI etc.
  • To obtain knowledge in clinical epidemiology by attending the Master’s program in Clinical epidemiology at the University of Toronto Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and by attending the Clinical Epidemiology rounds at Toronto General Hospital and the University Health Network Osteoporosis Program Research Rounds; and to perform a research project as a thesis project in metabolic bone diseases.
  • To present findings of her research and interesting patient cases at local rounds and at specialty meetings, and to prepare drafts of manuscripts for potential future publication.
  • To become familiar with the risks and benefits of relevant commonly prescribed diagnostic tests, medications and the need for patients’ informed consent.
