Description:

The Movement Disorders Fellowship program at the Toronto Western Hospital is a well-established, popular program, which provides an extensive training in all aspects of clinical movement disorders, including surgical management of patients undergoing functional neurosurgery (see below) and neurophysiology of movement disorders (see below). The training involves attendance at clinics, with faculty members (Drs A Lang, Fox; Chen; Strafella; Marras, Slow; Kalia; Fasano and Munhoz) providing supervision and training. This is a busy unit with the opportunity to see broad and varied clinical cases. In addition there are weekly video-rounds and journal reviews, monthly neuropathology seminars and training in clinical trial design and methodology; as well as the opportunity to attend city wide postgraduate lectures. All fellows also have an opportunity to get training in toxin injections and DBS. There are excellent opportunities for both pre-clinical and clinical research and the fellows are encouraged to purse a research project. The unit collaborates with many world renowned researchers in neurogenetics, basic neuroscience, imaging and neurophysiology. Fellows will get the opportunity to do a rotation in the Tourette and Huntington clinics and all fellows will have the opportunity to spend time in our surgical program clinics.
