The University Health Network (UHN)’s Toronto Congenital Cardiac Centre for Adults (TCCCA), one of the oldest and largest centres of its kind in the world, has trained more Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) physicians than any other centre in the world (more than 60 physicians since 1993). The TCCCA offers a 2-year fellowship with a broad education in the clinical management of patients with ACHD. The structural / interventional fellow will be expected to attend structural/interventional clinics, review imaging studies for the structural heart disease patient referrals in preparation for their outpatient consultation, attend and be primary operator for congenital, structural, TAVI and Mitral Valve procedures , responsible for the acute care needs of the structural heart disease service including taking inpatient call from home and telephone consultations with outpatients. As part of the clinical duties, fellows will be involved in on-call (in-patient general cardiology ward and ACHD on-call), echo reading, MRI/ cardiac CT, case conference, and teaching rounds. Besides, ACHD Fellows will attend and participate in case conferences, academic teaching rounds, and inpatient review rounds. Furthermore, ACHD Fellows will also conduct supervised, independent clinical research and collaborate in the research activities of the ACHD with a goal of one to two research publications in respected peer-reviewed journals by the end of the fellowship. |
