The Dermatologic Laser Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology fellowship is designed to allow the fellow to develop expertise in cutaneous laser and energy-based devices, and aesthetic dermatology (e.g., soft tissue fillers, biostimulators, neuromodulators, and sclerotherapy). By acquiring comprehensive knowledge and developing advanced skills in the assessment, treatment, and aesthetic enhancement of disfiguring skin diseases and rejuvenation of aging skin, the clinical fellow will function as an expert consultant by the end of the fellowship program. The fellow will develop skills communicating treatment options and plans, risks and benefits of treatment, and realistic expected outcomes. Collaboration with other healthcare team members such as residents, physicians (e.g., dermatologists, plastic surgeons, ophthalmologists) and nurses/technicians/assistants will be stressed to promote optimal therapeutic outcomes. Development of critical appraisal skills and knowledge of the medical literature in the field of laser, devices, and aesthetic dermatology is expected. Furthermore, the fellow will contribute to the advancement of science through research and publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. It is expected that the fellow will contribute to the education of peers and other medical professionals through lectures and educational sessions with students/residents and as a presenter/speaker at scientific medical meetings. |
