Clinician Scientist Support Program Question and Answer
As the external funding landscape continues to evolve, becoming more and more competitive, the DoM recognizes that launching and sustaining a career in research as a clinician scientist is increasingly challenging. We also recognize the challenges that face our CS faculty in their research career trajectories is not consistent. There exists considerable variability with respect to access to financial support, philanthropy, and social capital, and field-related journal impact factors and citation practices, in addition to the impact of unconscious and conscious biases. In academic medicine there is further variability in clinical support, e.g., availability of nursing and allied health, access to clinical space, and earnings.
Aligned with recommendations from the Leiden Manifesto, the DoM is launching a revised CS Support program that will incorporate a broader set of criteria. The rubric by which reviewers will assess applications is available on our website.
All Clinician Scientists are invited to join us for an information session on Wednesday, April 27th at 2:00pm. Please contact Kristian Galberg at dom.research@utoronto.ca for the zoom details.
