The Colonel Carl & Christina Walker Aerospace Medicine Travel Bursary

The Division of Occupational Medicine is pleased to offer up to 3 travel bursaries to support a University of Toronto medical student or resident to attend a conference or other educational or research experience relevant to the field of Aerospace Medicine.  This opportunity has been possible by the generous donation from Christina Walker in 2021 in memory of Colonel Walker.

Award value:   

Up to $1000 per recipient.

Eligibility and application requirements:

• Enrolled as a resident medical or student at the University of Toronto at the time of award application and at the time of the anticipated travel.
• Applicant to submit a short letter (approximately 1 page, ~ 500 word) explaining their interest in Aerospace / Aviation Medicine and how the educational experience will further their learning.
• In addition, the letter should specify the name and timing of the conference to be attended (see examples of conferences below) or other proposed educational/research opportunity, the estimated costs to attend and if the applicant will be a presenter or attendee.
• Priority will be given to those who have not been previous recipients of this award.

Selection Criteria:

A selection committee will review all applicant submissions.  Travel bursaries will be awarded on the basis of the quality of the submission, relevance to Aerospace Medicine, and the applicant’s career aspirations. 

For successful applicants:

To be reimbursed for the amount of the approved award, the successful applicant must:

• Submit applicable receipts for reimbursement (registration/accommodation/travel etc.) incurred by attending the educational experience
• Claim the award within the academic year awarded.
• Provide a short (1 page) summary of the learning experience and how it contributed to their career goals.
