Session Overview:

*Mothers who are also physicians face unique challenges to thriving. When societal expectations of motherhood success overlap with medical career expectations of success, comparison, perfectionism, and loss of self-compassion can result.

This experiential workshop aims to reframe the way mother-doctors view success by sharing 3 hard won lessons from a former burnt out mother-doctor-now life coach.

This event is open to all faculty and medical trainees.

*can refer to anyone who identifies with a primary caregiving role.

Objectives:

  • Explore societal expectations for "the good mother" vs. "the good doctor"
  • Identify 3 key lessons that can help mother-doctors stuck in a cycle of burnout

Facilitator Bio:

Dr. Dawn Lim (she/her) is a staff emergency physician and assistant professor at the University Health Network. She is a photo essayist and life coach particularly interested in changing the culture of shame in motherhood and medicine.
