Associate / Full Professor – Director of Professional Development in Virtual and Ambulatory Care, Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Professional Development in Virtual and Ambulatory Care. Embodied in our Strategic Plan for 2020-24, is a vision for innovative models of medical education in response to a rapidly changing landscape in teaching, learning and patient care. The pace of change demands new initiatives in delivery of virtual care and teaching and learning in a virtual environment, quality improvement and patient safety, and collaboration with other departments and educational units for training in impactful cross-disciplinary ambulatory practice. As patient care in ambulatory settings continues to shift to virtual and other platforms, there is an imminent need for the Department to lead the coordination and innovation in these disparate areas.

The Director of Professional Development in Virtual and Ambulatory Care will report to the Vice Chair Education. The term of the Director of Professional Development in Virtual and Ambulatory Care appointment is three years with the possibility of one renewal following a successful review. Effective start date is July 1, 2021 or an alternative date as mutually agreed on with a transition/mentorship period prior to the start date.

The Director of Professional Development in Virtual and Ambulatory Care will be a full time clinical faculty member appointed to the Department of Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with an academic position description of Clinician Teacher. Applicants should be recognized as skilled and qualified in the realm of Virtual and Ambulatory Care teaching, delivery and professional development. The incumbent will lead the coordination of the faculty development and learner education to effectively use these models of educational and clinical practice. Additionally, this role will lead the coordination and collaboration of the Department of Medicine with other Departments and academic units to develop and implement new models of teaching and care. Key to success will be the dissemination—through presentations, workshops and publications—the results of these innovative initiatives on local, national and international levels.

The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with an interest in fostering collaboration and building networks. S/he has demonstrated leadership experience and is supportive, personable and approachable.

The Director of Professional Development in Virtual and Ambulatory Care will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine.
