Associate / Full Professor – Faculty Lead - Valuing the Clinician Teacher, Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Faculty Lead - Valuing the Clinician Teacher. The Department of Medicine (DoM) is committed to ensuring an inclusive culture where all of its members feel a sense of belonging, where there is recognition and support for their well-being and equity and where all are supported to achieve fulfillment and excellence across all stages of their career. The Faculty Lead – Valuing the Clinician Teacher will report jointly to the Vice Chairs Culture & Inclusion and Education. The term of the Faculty Lead - Valuing the Clinician Teacher appointment is three years with the possibility of one renewal following a successful review. Effective start date to be mutually agreed on with a transition/mentorship period prior to the start date.

Aligned with the strategic priorities of the Department, the Faculty Lead - Valuing the Clinician Teacher is expected to lead the Department in amplifying the means by which we recognize the scope and impact of Clinician Teachers. The Faculty Lead – Valuing the Clinician Teacher will be a full time clinical faculty member appointed to the Department of Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with an academic position description of Clinician Teacher. Applicants should be familiar with the role of Clinical Teachers in the department of medicine and have knowledge of and experience with senior promotion on the basis of sustained excellence in teaching.  The incumbent will maintain and enhance a community of practice for Clinician Teachers; foster greater understanding among our learners of the important role of Clinician Teachers and develop and promote pathways to achieve the requirements for full time academic appointment as a Clinician Teacher; with a view to increasing the proportion of Clinician Teachers who achieve the rank of Full Professor. In addition, it is expected the incumbent will work to enhance innovative approaches to honour and recognize our Clinician Teachers, including through local, provincial, national and international awards.

The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with an interest in fostering collaboration and building networks. S/he has demonstrated leadership experience and is supportive, personable and approachable.

The Faculty Lead - Valuing the Clinician Teacher will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine in the amount of $30,000.
