The Bachelor of Science Physician Assistant degree (BScPA) is a full-time professional, second-entry undergraduate degree program, based in the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (U of T).
The BScPA is a University of Toronto degree delivered using a distance and distributed curriculum model in collaboration with Northern Ontario School of Medicine University (NOSM-U) and The Michener Institute of Education at UHN (Michener). The three institutions have formed the Consortium of PA Education (Consortium) to collaboratively contribute to the development, administration and delivery of the U of T degree.
The Consortium offers students a balance in academic and clinical orientation, extensive access to health care relevant resources and a curriculum delivery model that maximizes rural training and geographic accessibility throughout Ontario. The program is designed to meet the competencies outlined in the National Competency Profile established by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA). The aim of the program is to equip graduates with the competencies necessary to establish the foundation for a sustainable Canadian Physician Assistant profession. As an accredited program, graduates qualify for national certification as a Physician Assistant.
The PA Director will serve in an executive leadership role and provide strategic direction at a national, provincial and local level for the needs and future of the program and the PA profession at large. The position will oversee the delivery, management and operations of the program. The Director will provide linkages, strategic input and networking with clinical sites and key stakeholders including the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, government, healthcare and educational institutions, Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) and the public. The Director will promote key collaborations and partnerships, enhance program growth and innovation and support the broadening role of physician assistants in the health care system.
This role is an exciting position for a clinical faculty member who has attained a stature eligible for appointment at the University of Toronto at the minimum rank of Assistant Professor. The applicant must have a proven record of education administration and academic leadership. An understanding of the needs and realities of clinical practice in northern Ontario would be an asset.
