Visiting Professor Speaker: Dr Maria Pia Sormani
Professor of Biostatistics
Professor - Department of Health Sciences
University of Genoa, Italy
Topic: How statistics can be useful in MS research
Learning objectives:
1. Understanding the difference between “statistical significance” and “clinical relevance”
2. Understanding the role of MRI as a surrogate marker for clinical endpoints in MS and the characteristics that a marker should have to be a valid surrogate
3. Understanding the definition of markers of response to treatment and how we can try to identify patients who are more likely to benefit from specific therapies using a statistical modelling approach applied to RCT data
Featuring faculty speakers:
Dr. Mark Boulos (Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre)
Presentation: Exploring ambulatory approaches to diagnosing sleep disorders in various neurological conditions
Dr. Carolina Gorodetsky (SickKids)
Presentation: Using wearable technology to measure response to deep brain stimulation in children with dystonia
