Dr. Reza Gholami is a Gastroenterologist with a clinical focus on in-patient gastroenterology care at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, where he has served since October 2023. With several years of clinical, academic, and research experience, he is recognized for his commitment to advancing gastrointestinal care and evidence-based practice. Dr. Gholami completed his Gastroenterology training at the University of Toronto, where he pursued a multi-year clinical fellowship from 2019 to 2023, including specialized training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and later serving as a Gastroenterology Hospitalist Fellow. He earned Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certifications in Gastroenterology (2022) and Internal Medicine (2023). He also completed the University of Toronto’s Master Teacher Program (2023-2025), further strengthening his dedication to medical education. Prior to moving to Canada, he completed his Internal Medicine residency and board certification in Iran and obtained his MD from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Gholami has devoted part of his career to research in medical education, endoscopy, and IBD. His work includes more than 15 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Endoscopy, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Journal of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology. Notable contributions include studies exploring quality-of-life determinants in patients with IBD, validating endoscopy assessment tools, investigating augmented-reality–assisted endoscopy training. He remains active in ongoing multicenter projects, including the Canadian Endoscopy (CanEndo) Registry and systematic reviews on ERCP competency and emerging endoscopic technologies.

His academic accomplishments also extend to book chapters, including authorship in Photography in Digestive Endoscopy (Springer, 2020). His longstanding interest in medical education is reflected in both his research and teaching roles, ranging from residency lectures and endoscopy simulation courses at the University of Toronto to early-career contributions to gifted-and-talented medical education programs in Iran.

Dr. Gholami's professional experience spans clinical practice, quality improvement, and education. He is an active member of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology. Through his work as a clinician, educator, and researcher, Dr. Gholami continues to contribute to improving patient outcomes and advancing innovation in gastroenterology and medical education.
