Description:

This fellowship will provide the candidate with a comprehensive exposure to a highly developed model of cardiac rehabilitation in order to gain advanced skills in the design and delivery of exercise and lifestyle interventions and medical consultation in cardiovascular disease prevention. Specific objectives are listed as follows:

  • exposure to a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program including workflow, patient selection and screening criteria, clinical assessments, exercise prescription, monitoring, follow up 
  • hands-on supervision of cardiopulmonary testing / exercise testing
  • experience with specialized cardiovascular and chronic disease populations including those with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, heart transplantation, diabetes, stroke and cancer
  • working with multi-disciplinary teams including exercise physiologists, physiotherapists, nurses, dietitians, psychology, social work and physicians
  • research opportunities in the areas of exercise physiology, cardiovascular pharmacology,  exercise training in specialized cardiac populations
  • education opportunities with continuing medical and inter-professional conferences
  • development of patient education materials
