Description:



Women’s College hospital psoriatic disease program focuses on research of the transition from psoriasis to psoriatic arthritis. Musculoskeletal ultrasound is used as a point of care in the psoriatic arthritis clinic as well as for research purposes. Clinical and research fellowship programs are offered to physicians who completed their specialty training in rheumatology and wish to get additional specialized training in psoriatic arthritis or musculoskeletal ultrasound for a minimum of 12 months. Prior basic training in musculoskeletal ultrasound is preferred for those interested in musculoskeletal ultrasound fellowship. Participation in advanced graduate studies for MSc and PhD degrees is optional. The opportunity exists to participate in a number of research clinics including rapid access psoriatic arthritis clinic and combined cardiology-rheumatology clinic.

The fellow will devote 100% of his/her professional time to fellowship-related activities including:

 

  • Attending specialized out-patient psoriatic arthritis clinics supervised by the fellowship mentor (1 day/week) where they will be responsible for the assessment, management and follow-up of psoriatic arthritis patients.
  • Participation in journal clubs, inter-disciplinary rounds, and inter-hospital teaching rounds of the University of Toronto Rheumatology training program and Psoriatic Disease Research Program teaching rounds. 
  • The fellow will be expected to participate and contribute to ongoing research studies
  • The fellow will propose and carry out new clinical research project(s), i.e., performing literature review, developing study protocol, collecting data and analyzing and interpreting results.  The fellow will present finding of research at appropriate meetings and prepare drafts of manuscripts suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
