This award is presented for a valued research or quality improvement contribution in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Toronto. This award may be divided into a junior staff award (within 5 years of practice) and senior staff award (greater than 5 years of practice).  This award may also be divided into two awards recognizing 1) Research and 2) Quality Improvement separately.

Teacher of the Year, Resident Nominated: Awarded to a faculty member who has made a significant contribution to resident education through academic half days, clinical rotations, research/quality improvement projects, and/or curriculum development.

Mentor of the Year, Resident Nominated:  Awarded to an individual staff member in the Division who has had a significant impact on the career development of residents through personal mentorship or program development.  

The Resident Advocate Award: Awarded to a staff physiatrist who demonstrates superior awareness of, and respect for, resident needs. This individual serves as a strong ally and advocate in support of resident-related issues. 

The Best Dressed Physiatrist Award: Awarded to the staff physiatrist with the slickest style.

The Giver Award: Awarded to the very generous staff member who is most likely to kindly provide residents with a highly-appreciated coffee.

The CN Tower Award: Awarded to the residents’ best guess as to who the tallest staff member is.

Most likely to get ID’d Award: Awarded to a staff member who seems to have found the Fountain of Youth but may always have to carry two pieces of ID to make up for it. 

The Jeopardy! Award: Awarded to a staff physiatrist who may ask some tough but fair questions. 

"The Physiatrist I Aspire To Be" Award: Awarded to a staff physiatrist who embodies the attributes to which trainees aspire, serving as an exemplary role model as a clinician, teacher, team member, and human being. 

Sunshine Award: Awarded to a non-physician staff member who goes the extra mile to support residents and brighten their day.

Awarded to a staff physiatrist who significantly contributes to program success via innovative programming, mentorship, administrative support, and beyond. 

PM&R Resident Teaching Award

Presented to a current PM&R RESIDENT at the University of Toronto who has made an exceptional contribution to PM&R or the populations we serve on a local, national, or international level  e.g. organization of curriculum and programs, creation of new programs or services, academic achievements (eg. education/teaching, research, Quality Improvement), formal or informal mentorship, leadership initiatives, advocacy work for patients/caregivers, interprofessional endeavours, faculty/resident wellness initiatives, and patient/disability advocacy etc).
