Our center performs approximately 180 adult liver transplants per year, of which approximately 20-25% are living donors. We follow >1700 recipients in clinic, and maintain a waiting list of 200-220 patients. Approximately 10-15 new patients are assessed for transplant weekly. We have four funded Tx hepatology fellowship positions. The trainees come for one or two years; one year is typical if their plan is to return and work in a peripheral center that works with, but does not perform, transplants, and two years if full employment in a transplant center is the ultimate goal. Our fellows are paid a salary of approximately 65,000CDN, for which they do in-house Multi-Organ Transplant Call 3 or 4 times per month. The fellows rotate a week at a time (depending on numbers) on inpatient, outpatient, and research. There is an opportunity for some endoscopy. Two year fellows have the option of arranging selective in areas such as HCC, radiology, pathology, ID, and others.
