Pediatric Dermatology is a busy clinical, educational and research program. We currently have 9 staff, 4 full-time (Drs. Elena Pope, Irene Lara-Corrales, Alexandra Pennal and Rebecca Levy), 1 major part-time (Dr. Miriam Weinstein) and 4 minor part-timers (Drs. Nhung Ho, Marissa Joseph, Perla Lansang and Saul Greenberg).

Clinically over 8,000 patients are seen in 62 monthly general dermatology clinics, and 9 specialized, single-provider or interdisciplinary clinics (Epidermolysis Bullosa, Genodermatoses, Vascular Tumors, Cutaneous Lymphoma, Morphea, CALMs Screening Clinic, Psoriasis, Vitiligo, Laser). In 2018, 2 additional special interest clinics were launched, an Onco-Dermatology clinic (dealing primarily with skin disorders related to targeted therapies) and an Atopic Dermatitis Teaching clinic.

The education umbrella encompasses teaching at all levels of training, CME lectures and frequent international invited lectures. Since 2004, we have been running a very successful Biennial Pediatric Dermatology Update, attended by Pediatricians, Dermatologists and Family Practitioners. Our fellowship program is very competitive, attracting both Canadian and foreign trained individuals; 4 fellows, all with dermatology certification, are currently enrolled for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Dermatology research activities are an extension of clinical interests and focus on advancing clinical care and knowledge, particularly in areas of rare or orphan diseases by: a) providing evidence for established therapies and introducing new innovative therapies, b) facilitating research through development of validated research outcome tools, c) research leadership and international collaboration and 4) training the next generation of academic paediatric dermatologists through direct supervision and mentorship. In the past 5 years we received external grants for investigator-initiated studies totalling 1.4 million dollars.
